Anti-Racism in Health Care Settings Training
Anti-Racism in Health Care Settings Training, a workshop lead by Laura Myerchin, Network Coordinator
A workshop that discusses how racism occurs within a health care setting and methods of undoing racism for care providers. If interested, please contact Laura Myerchin.
Ms. Myerchin’s experience with anti-racism work:
While attending Guilford College in Spring 2003 I completed the Undoing Racism Community Organizing Workshops sponsored by The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond. In Spring 2004 I completed the Leadership for Social Change series of workshops sponsored by Guilford College and local community members. While at Guilford College I was a student representative for community-based anti-racism efforts, worked as an advocate for the local Latino community, worked as an English as a Second Language tutor and participated in several "Women and Racism" community discussions. As the secretary for the community senate, I worked with members of The People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond as well as members of the Greensboro area impacted by racism.
While in graduate school I completed a study that examined the role of sectarianism in valuing truth and reconciliation style peace programs in Belfast, Northern Ireland. In doing this, I drew on experience with the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation program as well as researching institutionalized forms of sectarianism and racism. I also have served as an evaluator for Pitzer College's study of student intercultural understanding (2006).
I hold a BA in psychology and women’s studies from Guilford College in Greensboro, NC and an MA in applied psychology, with emphases on program evaluation and cultural psychology from the Claremont Graduate University, Claremont CA. I have also completed a summer Irish Studies program at Queen’s University, Belfast Northern Ireland. I have acted as Network Coordinator for LA Net since July 2006.
